How similiar are gay lifestyles to reality as opposed to being portrayed by the media.......?

so i am attracted to guys but am afraid of pursuing a relationship due to the way the media portrays gays. the only gay lifestyles ive seen have been on tv and movies of stereptyped promiscuous, feminine men for Ex. queer as folk, and lots of movies. the thing is i don't want to tell anyone im gay because to me being gay seems like nothing more then a , im not a promiscuous person nor am i feminine or into fashion so my question is how accurate is the media in portraying gay life
