Should my Husband go to hospital?

My Honey came home after softball game and said he slammed his backside () into a fence pole and that it was throbbing. Now a day later his whole left ock is 5x the size as well as purple, black , and blue. He cant sit down. I was just wondering if maybe he could have really hurt his or did something to it? Broke something? Hes 39 and very active. Thanks so very much for your help and time:)
