The poet is being ironical in that the poem praises the likes of the characters in the epic movie and book, Gone With the Wind....the white characters that is. Here is the irony. It is the black characters who should be martyred and praised as it was their blood, sweat and tears which built mansions and life styles as seen at Tara!
