What are some common features that surround an early 19th century home?
I'm trying to do some research on a "Dogtrot" style four room home (not a cabin) that was built around 1830's-40's in Austin, TX. The original home property sat on a 50 acre tract of land (some farmland). The main part of my research has to do with the original surrounding features near the home and where they would most likely be be located. Examples of the features would be cisterns, outdoor kitchens, barns, privies, wells, slave quarters, etc... Is there a website online or reference book that you know of that would give the statistical probable location of these features in respect to the house? Do you know of anywhere I could find archaeological site surveys of that period of home with its surrounding features? Some more possibly relevant information is the original family settled in Austin around the same time the house was built and came from North Carolina. Any help would be greatly appreciated
