What historical act (in your opinion) was the biggest betrayal of trust?

I'm writing a paper and need a good example of someone betraying another's trust. I'm looking for a more recent act, so not "when Cain killed Able" please. The more humorous the better. Something equivalent to Clinton being impeached, but funnier.
